The story of a girl, a sign, and a global movement.
Born on January 3, 2003 in Sweden, Greta grew up in a family of artists. Her mother is an opera singer and her father is an actor. While she was quiet and found it hard to talk to people at first, she discovered a powerful focus within her.
She calls Asperger's her superpower—a unique perspective that allows her to focus intensely on the facts when everyone else looks away.
In August 2018, Greta sat outside the Swedish Parliament instead of going to school. Her sign read: "School Strike for Climate."
She was just a kid telling leaders they were doing a bad job. Soon, millions of students around the world joined her in the **Fridays for Future** movement. She went from a lone protester to speaking to the whole world.
To attend the UN Climate Action Summit in New York without flying, Greta sailed across the Atlantic on a high-tech racing yacht.
In 2019, she was named Person of the Year—the youngest person ever to receive the honor.
Millions of kids joined the protest, making climate change the central conversation of the century.
She tells everyone on the internet and in person: "Listen to the scientists."
